Funny Story for Your Enjoyment

Recently I wrote a post about baby mania that is happening around me. I think it’s great and I am super excited for all my friends and family who are pregnant.

I just got a letter from my Compassion International kid, Jimmy, and apparently he thinks that I am pregnant! According to Jimmy I am due in five months and he hopes I will send him a picture of our little bundle of joy. I have no idea where he got this information from, unless he is a prophet and knows something I don’t know. I will write him immediately and tell him even though ALL of our friends and family are preggo Scott and I are waiting a little while longer. I thought it was pretty funny that even if I go half way around the world I can’t escape baby mania.

Our Story

Over the past few weeks Scott has been blogging about how we met and fell in love. The series is called How I Met Your Mother (no we are not preggo.) and it is highly entertaining. In case some of you don’t read his blog I wanted to share it with you.

Hi

Well, hello y’all! Did you miss me? I am still alive but I have been super busy lately which explains my blogging absence. My hours at work have picked up a ton (e.g. I worked 9 hours yesterday) which has been an answer to prayer. I LOVE working at Anthopologie! My coworkers are awesome and we are like a little family. On my 1 day off a week I spend all day doing housewife stuff like cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping. Today is my day off so I decided to write a post.

Please pray for my grandfather. He just had surgery to readjust the shunt in his head. The surgery went well but he is not recovering like we had hoped. He is having an even harder time walking than he did before the surgery so they have moved him to Brooks Rehab for a few weeks. Pray that he will have the will power to work hard and to cooperate.

We are back from Seattle and we had an amazing time! The weather was gorgeous the entire time. It was hazy in the morning and then we would have clear skies by noon. My favorite part of the trip were the flowers. There were tulips, daisies, and cherry blossoms everywhere and they were all so vibrant! We don’t have flower colors like that here, which is a shame.
It is good to be home.

We are having a blast in Seattle. Our flight arrived last night around 11 and we got to our hotel around 1 which was 4 a.m. Jacksonville time. We were all DEAD!
This moring we woke up to a hazy sky and cold weather. By 11:00 the haze had burned off and the sun had come out to warm us up. I was expecting a constat drizzle and super cold weather so that was a plesant surprise. Lets pray that it stays like this. We went to Discovery park and did a little walking, and then went to see the city’s lock system and botanical garden. It was a blast.

Did You Miss Me?

I just realized that it has been almost a month since I have blogged. That is pathetic and inexcusable. Life has been crazy (my hours have picked up at work) and pretty predictable…work, eat, sleep, church. Although there is one thing different and that is topic of conversations. They are all centered around babies and pregnancy. Brittany and ALL of my other friends (I am not exaggerating. 18 to be exact) are pregnant. I love it because when Scott and I finally decide to get pregnant I feel like I will be beyond prepared. Brittany and Boyd are having a boy and I could not be happier for them! I am thrilled to be an aunt to a cute little nephew that will have dark hair, brown skin, and brown eyes.

The six of are heading up to Seattle on Thursday for a little vacation. We will visit Mars Hill church and see the sights. I am super excited because I have never been to Seattle, but I hope it will not be freezing cold this time of year.

This is really good! Scott just posted this on his blog and I also wanted to share it with you. If you go to Marhillchurch.org he also preached a sermon on Marriage and Women.

Birthweek.

My birth week is officially over. Birth-WEEK, you may ask? In order to celebrate with all the people in my life that love me, it takes me a whole week.

Saturday: My extended family

Monday: Scott’s mom and siblings

Tuesday: Scott and my immediate family

Wednesday: Scott’s dad and step-mom

Thursday: My girlfriends

Rough life, I know. It has been an amazing week and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I got to eat a ton of sweets and open quite a few gifts. Thanks to everyone who helped make my 26th birthday so special.

10 Ways To Be Frugal

It’s no secret that the economy sucks and it’s affecting everyone. If it’s not affecting you yet, it will soon. I have been doing research on how to be more frugal and think it would be a cryin’ shame not share my wisdom with you. Granted, I am not expert but if I can help just one person from this post it is worth it. Most of this information has been taken from personal experience.

Ways to be frugal:

1. Check out CD’s, DVD’s, magazines, and books from your local library. They have a huge selection and are free!

2. Cancel things you can live without like cable or internet (see my last post). This will also save you money on electricity. If that is not an option…

3. Call your internet, cable, and phone company and say you need to cancel your service because it too much money. In order to not lose your business entirely they will offer you a discount on your service (Comcast offered me $10.00 off my service when I called to cancel cable and internet).

4. Turn off your air conditioning and open windows on nice days.

5. Go through your home and find items you no longer use or want and sell then them it on ebay or Amazon. It is super easy, trust me. If you need help or tips call me and I can walk you through it.

6. Ride your bike instead of driving to nearby places to save $ on gas.

7. Google an item you want to buy with “coupon” at the end and print out the coupon. Most items, especially groceries, have a coupon option.

8. If you have to buy something buy it on Ebay, Amazon, or Craigslist for super cheap. You can also post an add on Craigslist under the “items wanted” section and you may get stuff for free.

9. Cut your own hair. I have been cutting Scott’s hair since college. It saves money and it is good bonding time. Male hair is practically a risk free cut, but female hair is much harder which is why I go to a salon.

10. Look sad and pitiful so you can get things for free at restaurants. This really happened to us by accident. We went to lunch with friends at The Loop, but didn’t order food because we were going to a b-day party where lunch was being served. Scott decided he wanted to buy a drink so we went to the counter and he asked the lady for a drink. I kind of gave him a mean look because I didn’t want him spending money on the drink in the first place. The lady saw our exchange and asked of that will all we wanted. Scott sadly said yes. She handed us the cup and said it is on the house. Our goal was not go get something for free, but I guess we looked pitiful enough that she felt bad for us.

Hope this is helpful for you.

Our New Life

I am sure that most of you have read Scott’s blog and know that we have officially done away with internet and cable in our home. I am here to report on how our experiment is going. It is AMAZING! I now have a more attentive, focused, and less distracted husband. I love our evenings at home now. I was afraid that we would be bored out of our minds by this time, but we have realized that there are other things to do besides watching TV and fooling around on the internet all night…imagine that! We now spend more time reading, walking, talking, snuggling….and other stuff. We make frequent trips to the library where they have a plethora of magazines, DVD’s, and books to check out for free. We have started using our condo ammenities more, such as the hot tub and workout room. I just discovered that the club house/pool area has public wifi. When we do want to get on the computer, free wifi is only a 2 minute walk away. I have found that I am also less distracted and now spend more time with the Lord.

I honestly cannot think of a negative to our new lifestyle. The only inconvenience I have run into is trying to print out numerous shipping labels for the items I sold on ebay. You cannot pull them up all at once in different windows. You have to print the first one before you are able to pull up the second one. I found myself having to ride my bike to the clubhouse, pull up the first one, go back to the house and print it out, ride back up to the clubhouse, pull up the second one, ride back to the house and print. It really was not that bad and I got exercise.

p.s. One of the best things is that we save $65.00 a month.

This is us at our new office by the pool. Tough life…I know.
